The Fairport Central School District has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff. Our comprehensive safety program is designed to provide students, staff, and visitors with facilities that meet or exceed standards in fire safety, air quality, hazardous materials management, chemical safety, and building safety.

All of our schools have safety and security plans in place.

In any emergency, the District would follow direction from public safety officials.

Children present unique security risks when they use a computer, and need advice, guidance, and protection. Talk to your child and let him or her know you can be approached with questions about behaviors or problems encountered on the computer. Teach your child how to safely use the computer and the Internet. There are many websites available as resources.

Steps to Reduce Security Risks to Your Child

• Keep your computer in a central and open location in your home and be aware of other computers your child may be using.
• Discuss and set guidelines and rules for computer use with your child. Post these rules by the computer as a reminder.
• Implement parental control tools that are provided by some Internet Service Providers and available for purchase as separate software packages.
• Consider using software that allows you to monitor your child’s e-mail and Web traffic.

The Three Keeps

Remember the three basic rules of Internet safety for children and adults, reaching them online at and in school.

• I Keep Safe all my personal information.
• I Keep Away from online strangers.
• I Keep Telling my parents or a trusted adult what I see on the Internet.

The Safe School Helpline is a convenient way to report concerns about unsafe or potentially disruptive activities or situations including drug or alcohol abuse, weapons, harassment, bullying, threats, possible suicide or any other safety issue.

The Safe School Helpline can be accessed via several methods:

The Safe School Helpline utilizes a unique, automated telephone service which allows callers to report a concern 24 hours a day, confidentially and anonymously if they choose. The voice message is typed and then emailed to school officials. In this way, no one other than the service operator hears the voice. Each call is assigned a case number. The caller can call back to the helpline to check progress on the call or to provide more information.

Section 409-l of the New York Education Law, which became effective January 17, 2017, requires every public school in New York State to post the toll-free telephone number operated by the New York State Office of Child and Family Services (“OCFS”) to receive reports of child abuse or neglect, and directions for accessing the OCFS website. That telephone number is 1-800-342-3720.
