Board Approves Tax Rate Decrease for 2010-11 At its meeting on August 18, the Board of Education set the final tax rate of $20.45 per $1,000 of assessed property value. Board President Ken Kathan noted that this rate is lower than the rate originally projected as part of the 2010-11 School District Budget approved by voters in May. The approved tax rate represents a reduction of 1.66%. This is the third year in a row that the District has been able to develop a budget that called for a reduced tax rate. The Board’s 2010-11 Kids First Agenda includes a commitment to four critical elements: Student Achievement, Maintaining Facilities, Controlling Budget Growth, and Controlling Tax Impact. The approval of the tax warrant ensures that another important element of the agenda has been accomplished. Tax bills will be mailed during the first week in September. You can project your 2010-11 tax impact by using the chart below. The chart provides an example of a home valued at $200,000. Insert your assessed value in the chart to get your tax estimate.
Community Meeting on FHS Field Lights Tuesday, Sept. 14 7 p.m. Johanna Perrin Middle School 85 Potter place The Fairport community is invited to learn about and provide input on the installation of lights on the multi-use field at Fairport High School at a meeting on Tuesday, September 14. At the meeting, Assistant Superintendent for Business Scott Covell, Director of Transportation Peter Lawrence, and Athletic Director James Zubo will provide information on critical issues such as parking, traffic flow, security, and light control and on the use of the field with lights. After the presentation, there will be an opportunity for community members to provide comments and suggestions about field operation. The installation of lights on the multi-use field at Fairport High School has been made possible through a donation from Fairport graduate and businessman Mark Crane. Since his offer several months ago, district officials have been studying the critical issues with the use of lights. Superintendent of Schools Jon Hunter noted that lights would make it possible to maximize use of the facility effectively for school and community activities. “However, it is important that we plan carefully for the safe and responsible installation of these field lights,” he said, “and that is what we are doing.” Planning also includes field use not only by the school community but by the Fairport-Perinton community. “Our goal is to provide opportunities for our students and the community and, at the same time, be good neighbors, noted Dr. Hunter. “The use of lights would enhance these opportunities, but we are also sensitive to our entire community.” If you are unable to attend the meeting, you may e-mail comments/questions to Dr. Hunter or call him at 421-2004.
