The Fairport High School Alumni Association (FHSAA) was officially organized in 1996. The president and chairman is Arthur Alvut.
The purpose of the FHSAA is to create a database of alumni names and link to social media detailing events and activities of alumni; assist class directors in contacting class members for reunions and other activities the board of directors deems appropriate.

The Fairport Alumni Wall of Fame annually recognizes outstanding Fairport alumni who have achieved distinction in their lives and chosen fields after high school through significant contributions to their careers, community, or through personal achievements. Over 120 FHS alumni have been inducted into the Wall of Fame since this program began in 1996.

They join 117 others honored since 1997, including the late Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, the late state Supreme Court justice Robert H. Wagner, former Perinton town supervisor James E. Smith, former Fairport village mayors Albert Henry Knapp and Clark King and retired Monroe County medical examiner the late John F. Edland, M.D.
Candidates must have been graduated from Fairport for at least 15 years. Those selected are high school alumni who have achieved distinction in their lives and chosen fields through significant contributions to their career, community and through personal achievements, providing an incentive as role models for current and future students.
Induction ceremonies are held in the fall on the Thursday of Homecoming Weekend.
An interactive display of inductees is located in the hallway adjacent to the high school auditorium, 1 David Paddock Way off Ayrault Road, one mile east of Route 250, in Perinton.
NOMINATIONS
Nominees must be out of high school for at least 15 years. A maximum of seven (7) alumni will be chosen and their accomplishments will be digitally displayed on a wall outside the Fairport High School auditorium.

Michael Blaakman, Class of 2005
An award-winning author, public speaker and historian of the American Revolution and the early American Republic developed his love of humanities and history during his days at FHS. A tenured professor of history at Princeton, he was awarded a “best first book in American history” prize for his publication “Speculation Nation: Land Mania in the Revolutionary American Republic.” As a Fulbright Scholar, he spent a year teaching English and American Studies in the Slovak Republic.
Andy Martino, Class of 1999
An Emmy award-winning writer, broadcaster and reporter who has covered the Philadelphia Phillies for the Philadelphia Inquirer and the New York Mets and New York Yankees for the New York Daily News. His broadcasting career has included work for SportsNet New York, ESPN, MLB Network, MSNBC and CNN. His books include “Cheated”, “Talk of Champions” and “The Yankee Way.” His Daily News assignments have also included coverage of culture and entertainment.
Scott C. Miller, Class of 1975
The founder of a nationally acclaimed non-profit organization to help communities end poverty became committed to the effort as a volunteer serving the homeless in downtown Rochester while a student at FHS. The Circles USA model is a community-building approach by partnering with local organizations to foster relationships across income lines to support families moving out of poverty and into economic stability. An author of several books on poverty, he was awarded the American Association of Retired Persons Well-Being Champion award in 2018.
David M. Rearson, Class of 1960
An Air Force veteran and lifelong volunteer in the Fairport-Perinton community, he joined the Egypt Fire Association at age 24, held all firematic offices, including three terms as chief, and continued to drive trucks and answer calls into his 80s. He is a two-time marathoner and was a ski patrol volunteer at Bristol Mountain for 25 years, where twice he assisted in life-threatening accidents and earned Purple Merit and Blue Merit stars from the National Ski Patrol for saving lives. At FHS he played soccer on the Raiders’ first three scholastic varsity teams.
David P. Yonkers, Class of 1956
A career officer in the U.S. Navy for 26 years, he rose to become captain, one rank below admiral, and was awarded numerous medals, including the Legion of Merit, for his service. His deployment on the destroyer U.S.S. Kidd in the Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq war in 1987 resulted in commanding a successful escort of reflagged Kuwaiti oil tankers through a minefield. It made national news and Yonkers admitted in interviews that the Navy had no minesweepers in the area to help. His father, Milton H. Yonkers, was a Fairport principal, industrial arts teacher and driver education instructor for 35 years.

Class of 1974
An Army war veteran who served as a cryptology specialist in seven countries overseas, including Bosnia, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, volunteered extensively in the Fairport-Perinton community. He holds a life rank as a Boy Scout patrol leader. A VFW, American Legion and Kiwanis Club member who organized fundraisers for food and clothing to assist low-income families.

Class of 2001
An award-winning trumpet player and arranger who has been horn section leader for American singer, songwriter and actress Miley Cyrus, a two-time Grammy nominee. A Berklee College of Music honors graduate, he has performed with Dolly Parton, made several appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” held lead chair in the Broadway musical production “Mean Girls” and has been lead trumpet for the “New York Spring Spectacular: The Rockettes” at Radio City Music Hall.
Steve Skeates
Class of 1961
An American comic book creator whose most frequent response to the question, “how did you learn how to write?” was always answered with, “write, write, write!” He was known for his work on Aquaman, Hawk and Dove, T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents and Plop!. He wrote under his own name as well as under the pseudonyms Chester Hazel and Warren Savin. A math major when he entered college, he went on to win the comic book industry’s top writing award in 2012.
John “Dutch” Summers
Class of 1959
A self-made businessman and philanthropist who worked behind the scenes to address community problems and was a quiet benefactor to dozens of disadvantaged youths, especially those in the Rochester City School District. He was described by a prominent colleague as having a, “gruff kind of exterior but he had this heart that was huge.” He grew a small machine shop on Turk Hill Road into a multi-national and international company. A business partner and close friend told of his colleague giving “freely of his time and resources, quietly supporting countless causes and organizations without any desire for acknowledgment or praise.”
Jonathan Beck. Class of 1998
Businessman Co-owns Red Coyote, a running and fitness store named No. 1 of its kind in the country in 2015. Heavily invested in community programs in Oklahoma.
Jennifer Collins. Class of 1974
A lifelong health care professional specializing in physical therapy, gerontology and PT education. Honored for her physiotherapy work in cultural exchanges with a health sciences institute in Kerala, India.
Virginia Williams Matzan Gullo. Class of 1964
Volunteer for over 50 years at Perinton Ambulance Corps. Became a Registered Nurse involved with trauma care then gastroenterology and hepatology at URMC. Founding director of a 5K benefiting colon cancer awareness.
Dr. Sian “Leo” Proctor. Class of 1988
Astronaut who accompanied four civilians on the SpaceX Inspiration Mission that orbited Earth for three days. Geoscientist, Afro-futurism space artist, entrepreneur and an inspiring international speaker who has devoted her life to educational outreach.
Customer loyalty program marketer and data scientist for airline and hospitality industries. Received
multiple national honors in advertising and marketing. Fluent in French and German. Actively involved as
a member of the LGBTQ+ community, including as a communications link to corporate management,
mentoring gay students and helping the homeless.
Carol Young MacGibbon, 1976
Engineering honors graduate with the U.S. Military Academy’s first class of women at West Point, one of
62 in 1980. Congressional Veteran Commendation Award winner. Former math teacher in hometown of
Plano, Tex. Mother of three children, all of whom have served distinguished careers in the military.
Peter McDonough, 1976
Award-winning marketing and corporate boardroom leadership executive and consultant. His experience spans several industries, including biotechnology, personal care products, household appliances, power tools, consumer beverages and academics. Former professor at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.
David Yawman, 1986
Partner with a college classmate in a corporate leadership firm after a legal career that included being
general counsel for PepsiCo. Inc., managing a team of 600 in 200 countries. Longtime volunteer with the
United Way and chairman of the board of a pro bono partnership in New York City’s tri-state area.
