Johanna Perrin Middle School honored with Community Partner Award
Congratulations to Johanna Perrin Middle School on being named the recipient of St. John Fisher’s Community Partner Award 2025! This accolade recognizes a community organization that has significantly contributed to the success of both K-12 students and St. John Fisher University’s (SJFU) Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education students.
For the past 11 years, Johanna Perrin (JP) has been a key partner in the implementation of a course that is part of SFJU’s Inclusive Childhood Education bachelor’s degree program. The course, which focuses on differentiating curriculum, instruction and assessment, allows college students to obtain a teacher certification that extends to middle school classrooms.
“Our collaboration with SJFU’s School of Education is invaluable,” said Dr. Tanya Wilson-Thevanesan, FCSD’s deputy superintendent for school improvement and community engagement. “This partnership not only enriches our staff's professional growth through shared learning experiences but also significantly enhances the educational opportunities and outcomes for our students.”
JP administrators and teachers have played a vital role in designing course assignments, mentoring SJFU students, serving as guest instructors and facilitating school-wide learning walks. Even through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, JP continued to devote classroom space to the course to sustain this long-time partnership.
“Middle schools are a special place to learn and grow, both as educators and as students, and we are so honored that SJFU continues to partner with Fairport Central School District,” Dr. Wilson-Thevanesan said. “Together, we're shaping a brighter future for our community."
The award will be presented to JP representatives at SJFU’s Education Celebration on April 24. We are so proud of JP for receiving this recognition and engaging in this impactful collaboration!
