    Log into Easybib through Fairport Apps mail

    • Once logged in, click on the Apps (9 dots in a square) in upper right
    • Click “More” and select “Easybib”
    • Go to the dropdown menu under your name in the upper right; click on “coupon code;” click the blue link to EDU; enter the code “minerhsny”
    • Select “New project” (e.g. “Career Research Project” not “English”)
    • Name your project
    • Keep MLA as default style

You may locate print resources using Destiny Quest, and search terms such as the name of your God/Goddess, mythology, etc. You may also click on the “website” tab in the upper right to explore credible websites on your topic.

    In addition to using Destiny Quest, the Gods, Goddesses, and Mythology Database will be a useful resource for you.  It is recommended you begin the search for your God or Goddess using the “Articles” feature.

    For this project you must create a booklet which shows that you understand the role of the GREAT EXPECTATIONS character you were assigned as well as the historical period. In your booklet you must include the following:

    1. A cover with an illustration of your character and an important quotation by or about your character, title, author, character name, illustration and your name and date.
    2. letter addressed to another character in the book, written as if you are your character.
    3. monologue you will deliver. You will need to show an understanding of the author and the Victorian period.
    4. cartoon which graphically represents a scene important to your character, along with a rationale for the scene choice and cartoon.

    Your booklet must be professional, informative, neat, and engaging in order to receive an excellent grade. A rubric detailing point distribution can be found on the last page of the assignment (attached below).

  • THE HERO PROJECT


    You will be responsible for choosing a “hero”, a person who meets TWO of the following criteria:

    • They have displayed inspiring courage in the face of terrible hardship,
    • They have displayed a nobility of purpose in their life in service for others,
    • They have superhuman talents or skills in their particular field of study, art, or athletics.

    Print Resources

    Make sure the person you choose fits 2 of the above criteria and has a book written about her or him. To see if the district owns a book check the library catalog, Destiny. If we do not own it check the Public Library System.

    Keep track of all your sources using Noodletools.  Be sure to access through your Fairport Apps Account!

    When you are ready to create your magazine article go to All Programs > Microsoft Office Word > Click on NEW and open newsletter template. Alternatively, you may use a newsletter template in Google Docs.

  • Destiny Quest: Log in and begin your QUEST for a book that interests YOU!

    Hints:

          Feed Cover
    • Think about search topics.  What are some of your interests?  Sports? War?  Fantasy? Historical Fiction?  Type the topic in the search box and see what comes up.  Narrow or broaden your search as needed. If you want to limit to fiction titles only include “fiction” after your search (e.g. mystery fiction).
     Give A Boy A Gun Cover
    • Think of a book you have read and liked.  Type the name of that book into the search and see what other books Destiny Quest recommends.

    • Try reading a book by a Teen Book Festival author!!  Visit the TBF website for a list of this year’s authors.

    • Check out the Top 10 List in Destiny Quest to see what your classmates are reading.
     Wake
    • Take a look at some book trailers.  Similar to movie trailers and could whet your appetite for a good book!  There are many book trailers out there…just do a Google search for more!
     Hungergames
    • Ask a friend what they enjoyed and try that book.
     Goodreads
    • Check out Goodreads. This is a social networking site which connects readers to books

     

    If we don’t own a book you want, just ASK! We can get almost any book within a couple of days.  We will borrow the book for you from another library in our district, another district or from the public library.  We may even purchase the book and add it to our collection!

  • Speech & Slide Presentation Instructions

    1. Speech Guidelines:
    • Use the template below to create a one and half to three minute speech on your person which you will then present to your class. Your speech template is attached below.
    1. Slide Guidelines:
      You will create a single slide to be displayed as a backdrop during your presentation. A slide template has been shared with you. You may access it through an email sent from Heather Smolowyk dated February 11, or you may access the slide through Google classroom.

    To access your Google Classroom slide, please do the following:

    From email:

    • Open email and click “Join”
    • Click “open”
    • Click on “PWCTW slide” and complete

    From Google Classroom:

    • Access Google Classroom through your Fairport email
    • Click on the Apps (9 dots in the upper right portion of your email).
    • Click “more” and then click on Google Classroom.
    • If asked for your role, please select “student” and click submit
    • Click “Join”
    • Click “skip tour”
    • Click on “PWCTW Slide” or “Open”
    • Click out of pop up box
    • Click on slide and complete

    To create your slide:

    • Choose a theme
    • Create one slide with the following information:
      • Your person’s name
      • Two quotes correctly cited (examples below)
      • One single picture

    If you would like to do slide animation, you may.

      •  “Change transition”

    Please note that your slide automatically saves as you work and is also shared with Mrs. Smolowyk.

    You do not need to click “Turn it in.” If you do so, you must click “unsubmit” in order to edit your slide.

  • Project Description:

    For this project you will work with a partner to research a classical or contemporary American poet and prepare a 4-5 minute presentation for the class.

    You may choose to create a PowerPoint presentation (minimum 5-6 slides) or handout to present the information to the class. Your presentation must include the following:

    • a brief biography of the poet (including picture and key information about the poet’s life)
    • a description of any common themes in his/her poetry
    • one of the poet’s best-known poems (be sure to explain your interpretation of the poem’s meaning and point out the poetic devices used by the poet)

    You will need to consult three sources for this project. You must include a “Works Cited” on either your PowerPoint slide or handout using proper MLA format.

    Cover should include:

    Research Project – Africa

    For this project you will be creating a short research report on one of Africa’s Sahel countries, which will be assigned to you.

    There are a variety of resources you may use to complete your research. A few of these are listed below. You are not limited to these and are encouraged to explore additional high quality resources on your own.

    As this is a research paper, you are expected to complete a Works Cited through Easybib, documenting the sources where you have obtained your information. Easybib should be accessed through your Fairport Apps mail. Once in your mail, click on the apps icon in the upper right corner, then click “more,” then find Easybib near the bottom of your options.

    • This is a great resource for books as well as websites
    • To access websites, do a search and then click on the website tab

    • CultureGrams – Click on World Edition, then Africa, then your particular country, then choose your topic on the left hand side.
    • Today’s Science – Type your country in the search box in the upper right hand corner. You may limit by topic area along the left side.

    If you do not locate the information you need through these resources, you might also try search the Internet with a search term such as “Sahel environmental issues” or “Mali environmental issues.”
