Welcome Lisa Benson to Fairport as Director of MTSS!
The District is proud to announce that Lisa Benson will join the Fairport CSD administration as the Director of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). In this newly-created position, Mrs. Benson will head the development and implementation of a District-wide academic and social emotional support structure and also network with community-based resources. The Board of Education voted to approve her appointment to this role during the June 20 Business Meeting.
Mrs. Benson’s expertise and experience with supporting the social-emotional and mental health needs of students has developed over her tenure with the Webster Central School District; first as a school psychologist, then as a behavior intervention specialist and as a Teacher on Special Assignment with Student Services in the WCSD. She currently serves as Program Director for One Webster Learning (OWL) Center Elementary, which is a program she helped to create to serve students with significant delays in their social-emotional and behavioral health.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Benson has led Webster CSD’s District-level Social Emotional Learning Framework Team in resource-mapping, planning activities and creating learning targets to meet New York State SEL standards. Mrs. Benson has extensive experience developing and facilitating professional learning to guide administrators and teachers through MTSS Tier 1 and Tier 2 implementation.
As Director of MTSS at FCSD, Mrs. Benson will also oversee the District’s Universal Pre-K (UPK) program, which expanded to accommodate 90 total pupils for the 2023-2024 school year, two “classes” of which will be housed in FCSD facilities. In this role, Mrs. Benson will collaborate with providers and families to provide equitable access to early childhood education.
Throughout the interview process, Mrs. Benson demonstrated a broad and deep understanding of MTSS implementation at both a building level and District-wide. Her dedication to supporting the academic, social-emotional and mental health needs of all students is aligned with Fairport’s mission to educate and support each child and the whole child. She is a dynamic and proactive administrator with a focus on strengths-based leadership.
“Establishing a robust MTSS ensures equitable educational experiences for all of our children. Fairport is a resource-rich district full of deeply caring and compassionate educators. I am grateful for the opportunity to join this community and serve Fairport students, families, and educators while doing work that I truly love to do. Thank you for your warm welcome, and I look forward to starting to work with everyone soon,” said Benson.
Mrs. Benson is scheduled to begin her new role on July 1, 2023. Please join us in welcoming and congratulating Lisa Benson!
