About Our School

Fairport High School (FHS) is a large suburban school located outside of Rochester, NY, with an overall enrollment of 1,700 students in grades 9-12. Fairport is known throughout the region for its "Fairport Family" mantra and supportive culture. The district is committed to ASCD's Whole Child Tenets, which aim to create a welcoming and engaging learning environment for all students and meet their social, emotional and academic needs/development. FHS teachers challenge students to think critically, communicate effectively, and foster an appreciation for lifelong learning. In addition to traditional core classes, FHS offers more than 80 electives for students including an extensive number of AP and dual-credit options. Beyond the school day, students participate in numerous athletic teams, extracurricular clubs, competitive academic teams, and theatre productions.

At FHS, administrators, teachers and staff are purposeful about developing and maintaining positive and meaningful connections with the students and community. The FHS team prides itself on making a large school feel small, and as a result, the school culture is Fairport's biggest asset. Though proud of its accomplishments, FHS strives to improve its practice. In recent years, the school has taken steps to better understand the importance of mental health and wellness in the school community. As a result, mental health staff received in-depth training and partnered with the University of Rochester Strong Behavioral Health professionals to establish accessible supports within the district. This community connection has better prepared and equipped FHS to support and educate students struggling with mental health.
